HEALTHY EATING HABITS IMPORTANCE

When did you start understanding that is not about what you eat, but the quality of your choices… For fitness, and wellness gains.

Healthy tip – When did you start realizing about healthy eating habits importance? I remember when I was really young, around 7 or 8 years old, my dad telling me: “I don’t want my daughter to be fat”. I was overweight for my age… Neither me, or my parents knew anything about healthy eating habits, and the importance on managing weight, or supporting health.

When I was around 12 to 14 years old, I lost a lot of weight. I wanted to be skinny, and I wanted to look good. Still not aware on healthy eating habits importance. I was strongly on the very unhealthy side, This is when I stepped in decades in a strong eating disorder (I will approach this topic in a near future). I took dieting pills, steroids, got my body in a deep overtraining state… I knew nothing about healthy eating habits importance. I used to think that if I would eat anything, I would gain weight. I looked so skinny, and so unhealthy… Not pretty, not attractive at all…

It was only around late 20s, when I met my ex husband, that I started understanding about healthy eating habits importance… He himself had to learn about it at his early 20s, when trying to overcome cancer at its last stage. He faced one year treatment, and the fear of not being able to survive… It has been 13 years since he overcame lymphoma, and is one of the healthiest persons I know.

He taught me to not trust the food industry. Not mattering how healthy they claim to be. “Read the ingredients label”. “Go for wild caught fish”. “Grass fed beef”. “Pasture raised chicken”. “Organic, and seasonal fruits, and vegetables”… I used to make fun of him… Until I started actually listening to what he had to say. And read about it, research, try it out, test, explore, experience through my clients… What a long journey…

Here I am… Early 40s… I would say it has been a decade since I started understanding the healthy eating habits importance, and putting it in practice. Understanding that what you eat can slowly poison your body, and your mind, or promote healing… It can make you look unhealthy, feel unhealthy, addicted… Or can slow down aging, promote a better immune system, better metabolism, better sleep, more energy….

I still carry on some bad habits… But my biggest victory is leaving my bulimic years behind. Understanding steroids and pills will create a vicious cycle. That not every food will get you fat. It will depend a lot on how healthy your choices are.

My son is almost six years old. Myself, and his dad continuously talk about healthy eating habits importance. When he asks for some kind of junk, I grab the label and read the ingredients with him. I tell him: “Oh no, this one has high fructose corn syrup. This is what got dad sick. Let’s try to find another option”. I tell him: “the food industry wants to profit out of us. These ingredients will make you think this is sooo taste… Because they want you to buy more, and more of it. They don’t care this will get you sick…”.

I wish I had learned those lessons when growing up. I don’t blame my parents at all. They did the best they knew. They gave me soda at early ages, they allowed me to buy candy, and eat as much junk as I wanted. But at the same time they were asking me to not become heavy on the pounds…

The concern was never health. But appearance. That’s one of the reasons I say” Persuade fitness, and you will fail. Persuade wellness, and you will succeed”. I have been there, and I have done all the wrong stuff in the past. I understand I spent most of my life going for the wrong options. But here I am… Still standing… Because I actually learned from my mistakes, and I never gave up…

Never give up on yourself. Never believe you know it all. Be humble, be persistent, be brave, and be curious. Failure is part of the process. It will teach you valuable lessons…
